What is a monthly theme
A monthly theme consists of:
- A title (for example «Shooting technique» or «6:0 defense»).
- A short description of what the focus involves.
- Up to three drill tags that link the theme to relevant drills in the library.
The theme is tied to a specific team and a specific month, and appears in the calendar for everyone who sees that team.
Setting up a monthly theme
As a coach or club administrator you do it from the team's calendar:
- Open the calendar and go to the month you want to set a theme for.
- Tap the theme bar at the top of the month view, or pick «Add monthly theme».
- Enter title and description, and pick tags if relevant.
- Save.
You can edit or delete the theme later. If you change the description, it is automatically translated in the background to the other languages Planr supports.
Suggestions from the sporting director
Does the club run a shared sports plan? The sporting director can suggest monthly themes for several teams at once:
- Open the club's admin section and pick the monthly themes overview.
- Enter the suggestion, and pick which teams it should be copied to.
- Save. Each coach then gets the theme as a starting point for their month.
Coaches can adjust or replace the theme for their own team, but don't have to start from scratch. It's a nice way to keep a common thread across age groups without overriding individual coaches.
How monthly themes are used in practice
- Training planning. Use the theme as a guideline when you build sessions for the month. Build a training session and tag it with the same tag as the monthly theme to keep the thread.
- Shared calendar. If you have enabled monthly themes on the shared calendar, parents and players see the current month's theme. That makes it easier to explain why a given week looks the way it does.
- Season plan. An overview of monthly themes through the whole season turns into a simple sports plan you can refer to at coach meetings.
Tips
- Keep the theme concrete enough to act on. «Shooting technique from outside positions» works better than «Get better».
- Pick tags that match the drill library. That way coaches can easily find relevant drills by filtering on the same tag.
- Use monthly themes as a reference point in conversations with players and parents. «We're working on defense this month» is easy to remember.
